UNIVERSITY HONORS PROGRAM AMBASSADOR LEADERSHIP TEAM

Since my UHP story is based on taking risk, I decided to take a risk Spring 2023 by applying to join the ambassador leadership team. After being apart of the honors retreat for two years, I knew that my final year I wanted to do more than just show up. I wanted to be apart of the team.

I'm big on things happening for a reason, and being selected to be apart of LT was one of those things that happened for a reason. UHP has had a huThis was my opportunity to help others have their own amazing honors story as a UHP ambassador.

being able to assist in the honors retreat, and mentoring my first honors mentee Jordan was such an amazing experience. it felt so good being so hands on in a big part of what we do as ambassadors. :)

personal and professional development:
Looking back on the last year of work, what has stood out as the contribution you are most proud of within the Leadership Team?
The majority of my contribution to the Leadership Team came from planning and facilitating the 23-24 honors retreat.  My idea of “UHP elevator pitches” was something I was proud of and loved how that manifested into real life. As an ambassador who participated in the retreat twice before working with the Leadership Team, I felt like my ambassador perspective was really useful. I was able to raise concerns, and ideas that some of the veteran ambassadors or returning leadership team members hadn't considered. Overall I am proud that I was able to be vocal about my ideas and collaborate with the team to make some of my ideas come to life during the retreat.

How have I grown as a leader?
I think that the UHP Leadership Team helped me grow as a leader because it forced me to step out of my comfort zone. I was given the task of planning and facilitating an event that had been running for a few years. The retreat already had a solid outline and for me, it was intimidating at first. The easy thing to do would have been to just say “everything has worked so well in the past, why change it” or make minor changes to not ruffle feathers or rock the boat. Instead, I was vocal about the changes I wanted to see and advocated for why they should be changed. During my time on the Leadership Team, I think I added to my vocalization and advocacy skills, which have made me grow as a leader in other organizations as well.
